As many of us expected the demonstrations on Ashura to take place on December 27th, I personally didn’t expect there would be bloodshed. And yet there were 9 people reported killed and many injured. I’ve never heard them chant such bold chants and I never expected them to go as deep into the system of the IRI. There were even protests at the same place where ayatollah Khomeini used to speak to the people. There were pictures of Khamenei being ripped apart. These were things that we didn’t see at last June’s demonstrations. The statesmen were so frightened by the protests that they took Khamenei to the army base by helicopter in order to protect him. On the 28th there is going to be a general strike and there are already demonstrations outside of Iran being organized to show support. Let’s see what tomorrow brings us.

ps. Just before the protests started, I had started writing a paper about the perfect model of democracy for Iran. Who knows how soon we might be willing to use that!
